Signs to watch for
If you notice any of these, book an appointment with a doctor. Do not wait for it to hurt.
A new lump
A lump or thickened area in the breast or under the arm that was not there before.
Size or shape change
One breast becoming larger, lower or different in shape from the other.
Skin changes
Dimpling, puckering, redness, or skin that looks rough or like orange peel.

What to do next
A simple path from noticing a change to getting answers. Your doctor will guide you at each step.
Notice and note
Write down what you noticed and when. Small details help your doctor.
See a doctor soon
Book an appointment with a doctor or a breast clinic. Bring your notes and any family history.
Clinical examination
The doctor examines you and decides which tests, if any, you need.
Imaging
You may be advised to have an ultrasound or a mammogram to look more closely.
Biopsy, if needed
If something needs a closer look, a small sample is taken and tested to give a clear answer.
